We’re still in strange times as runners. Many of you will still be pounding the streets, keeping your mileage up, having trained for twice-cancelled events. It can be boring and arduous.
But it doesn’t have to be. If you’re already ‘up to distance’ or running well and want to improve your speed, why not break your long runs into something a little more interesting?
For instance, if you run without a timer/sports’ watch, why not sprint up any hills you find? You could play a fartlek game to get you home or even head out the door for a fixed time, turn around and try to beat yourself home.
If you do use a watch or a timer, you could do one of my favourites: 0.1 of a mile faster every time the mile ticks over. Or you could split your LSR into two long and two short chunks then alternate your speed for each chunk.
